Your Serve

Oh Vegas. Where else can you go on vacation with no other intentions but to risk money on ridiculous games of craps, black jack or wheel of fortune slot machines, and $12 martinis... made with house vodka (though I later learned that I could order a Grey Goose martini for the same price... how does that work?)?

Sure, we could have stayed here and gambled at Casinos like The Nugget, Harrah's, El Dorado, Circus Circus, Atlantis etc.... The list goes on and on!

But why stay here where it is already 98 degrees... when you could enjoy triple digit temps in Vegas?

I guess the idea was a little absurd, but we actually had business to attend to... sort of. Maybe a "convention" of sorts? No .. I'll call it what it is... the 31st Annual National Beer Pong Tournament. An (irritatingly) "exclusive" (by invitation only) match of brains and brawn... ha. OK .. so basically, it is ping pong, turned into a drinking game.... while wearing silly costumes.
I forgot my memory card to camera, so all pictures were taken by our friend M. Here are a few...
B&M.. as Siegfried and Roy ...

Leave Him Alone for 5 Minutes...

I turned my back on this little guy, and THIS is what I found ...

*That is my underwear around his neck BTW!

Here he is with his accomplice.....

T looked at me like, "What Momm? I didn't gots nuffin to do wif dats!"

Yes, it is common for them to play tug-o-war with my underwear... but I've never seen them get it around their necks! HA!

F Injury Update

(ok, it was a jump!).....

F went to the vet this afternoon. Apparently, I've been UNDERESTIMATING his weight!!!! I've been saying he was 12 lbs...... but guess WHAT.... he really weighs 17lbs!!!!!!!!!!! Holy Moly! Vet said he is all muscle and is REALLY looking good!

As for his injury.... it isn't the joints. The vet said it is most likely the muscle around the scapula. He splayed his shoulder a bit. (I don't know what splayed means... I'm heading to google after this is done!)

He gave him a shot, and some chewable anti-inflammatory pills. The vet said to call him Wednesday morning. If by then, F isn't trying to walk normally (he may be able to while on the pills, but I'm not supposed to let him get carried away).. so if he ISN'T able to walk normally with the help of the anti-inflammatory pills, then we'll bring him in Wednesday and get an x-ray. But after a thorough once -over with his hands, and based on where he was touching when F yelped, and how he is walking on it, the vet is pretty confident it isn't a fracture or joint/bone related! Hooray!

Yet Another Wild Fire

I couldn't begin tell you how many wild fires there have been in our area and surrounding areas in the past month! I am choking for some fresh air.... but, tis the season I guess.

This afternoon, a fire broke out near a million to multi-million dollar home neighborhood. Thankfully, I don't think any homes were lost and there weren't any injuries.

I had a fabulous view from my neighborhood, and took this opportunity to try stitching a panoramic shot together for the first time EVAH.... the old fashioned way... using only my limited photoshop skills, a few (tried to stay steady) hand held shots from digital SLR, and a little smudging & cloning. All this makes me want to figure out how to REALLY stitch photos together for a panoramic shot! Makes me envious of others with cameras who can do it for em!

*note the houses you see in the pictures are NOT the multi-million dollar .. or even million dollar homes!

the fire is on the right hand side in this shot, in the hills. (round here, those are HILLS! not mountains!) thought it would be neat to show you how the smoke is settling in the city. Makes for a purdy sunset now don't it!( like my cowboy talk?)

Weekend in the Woods

B and I were able to visit some friends at their family cabin near Mt. Lassen this weekend. We brought the dogs along for the ride too.

After some catching up with friends, great meals by candle light, a five foot fall from F resulting in a rabid gerbil scream* (that is sure to haunt us for the rest of our lives), a beautiful day at Lake Willow, and hundreds of pictures.... we are now home and the dogs are EXHAUSTED!

Enjoy the pictures...

*F managed to get ballsy enough and jump off the 5+ foot deck, down onto the ground below. It happened in a split second, and as soon as he hit the ground we were all rushing towards him .. and towards the horrific, rabid gerbil screeches that were coming from his mouth. Surprisingly, he calmed down quickly. We assessed the situation, and found that nothing was obviously broken. We were miles from a phone/cell service ... so we made the executive decision to keep him off his feet as much as possible and stick around for a little while. Nothing appears to be tender to the touch, but even today he is still limping, so a visit to the vet may be in store for Monday. He has been trying to hop around more and more.
