This weekend, we went camping with several friends at Emerald Bay State Park at Lake Tahoe.
I was on the fence about it because even though the campsite allowed dogs (on leashes), the trails and beaches did not. When we asked the Ranger's opinion, he said it was only a big deal if someone else complains.... So ... we broke the rules and went past the "no dogs allowed" sign!
Hey, they were on leashes!
The campsite allowed dogs... but the beaches and trails don't always..... worst case scenario... we spend more time playing at the campsite and driving (with our trail book in tow that lists all dog friendly hikes) a little ways down the street for adventure.
No need though. T&F and their Chocolate pal , Buddy, were welcomed with open arms all through out the beaches, trails and campgrounds at Emerald Bay State Park.
The first night was uneventful & peaceful. T&F slept curled up deep down in our sleeping bags at first, then they got hot and took over our pillows!
The second night, was VERY windy.... and while T&F slept in the same peaceful, snoring manner... I was left heart racing and trembling with fear that at any moment, the bears who were currently pounding on all of the metal bear boxes in our camp would soon get bored and smell the left over s'mores on my mouth and barge through my tent!
Needless to say, I kept B up... nice to have company, but unfortunately, B ended up with a bad case of diarrhea in the middle of Damn Bear Infested Night! No way in hell was he leaving me alone in that tent! Instead, after sending him out to scout the site for bears (thankfully, we were right next to the restrooms...) after he was sure it was safe, we scooped up the dogs and scurried off to the bathroom. I made him share the two-stalled girls room with me and I shut the door and blocked it with a trash can.. just in case! ha. Like that would have done us any good.
After two frightful trips to the shitter with the entire family, I finally decided to to pack up and sleep in the car!
We ended up sleeping in the front seat of the Subaru (as the back was filled with dog crates), reclined and with one dog in either of our laps! So much for comfort. At least I wasn't able to hear anything inside my car and we slept until dawn ... when we woke up and scurried across to our tent to catch a few more Zzzzzz's.
Here are the pictures from the weekend.....
